Update: Settlement allows Catholic priests to maintain confidentiality of confessions
New Washington state law on child abuse reporting had been challenged
The state of Washington has agreed not to enforce a provision of a Washington law passed in April that would have required Catholic priests to disclose to state officials cases of child abuse and neglect when priests learn of such abuse and neglect during the sacrament of confession.
